Charles Ingalls, his wife Caroline, their three daughters Mary, Laura, and Carrie, and their dog Jack, leave Wisconsin to emigrate west. A long journey awaits them on a modest pioneer wagon with a canvas roof to Kansas, a vast state with vast expanses of green prairie.
