In a forest in Aveyron, a child living in the wild is captured by peasants. He is first placed in a center for the deaf and dumb, where he becomes the object of much curiosity. When the authorities decide to transfer him to a children's asylum, Dr. Itard opposes the move and decides to welcome him into his home in Batignolles, in order to help him develop his intellectual faculties and sensitivity.
