Jim Phelps heads the "Missions Impossible" department. A CIA agent, Kittridge, asks him to carry out a delicate case in Prague. Phelps must unmask a Russian agent, Alexander Golitsyn, as soon as he steals the list of American agents operating in Central Europe. Phelps assembles his team, which includes his wife, Claire, and his assistant, Ethan Hunt.
