Father Lamont, a disciple of Father Merrin, investigates the strange circumstances of his death, which occurred while the latter was exorcising a young girl possessed by the Devil. Father Lamont discovers with horror that the young woman, treated by a psychotherapist, is, four years later, still under the influence of the Evil One.
